01The Residence
Set into an aspen grove at 8,400 feet, Highline House is a 2023 commission by Tom Kundig — a pavilion of charred-cedar, blackened steel, and twenty-foot panes that pivot fully into the alpine air. The plan is organised around a double-height great room with a reclaimed-Wyoming-timber ceiling and a black-steel hearth that opens to an outdoor room of equal scale. There is direct ski-in access to the Ajax Mountain trail system. Interiors are by Anne McDonald: cashmere wool rugs, hand-blackened iron joinery, antique Japanese ceramics. A subterranean level holds a wine cellar, screening room, and wellness suite with hammam.
